This is an original oil on cold press illustration board completed by Shannon Stirnweis in 1981 for the Fleetwood Trails West Collection of fine art prints.  Our gallery purchased this painting directly from the company who commissioned the painting.  Provenance will be provided to the buyer as well as the original Certificate of Authenticity.

Titled Bronco Bustin', the artist conveys a gathering of cowboys celebrating and showing off their skills on a typical fall morning in eastern Wyoming on September 23, 1897.  This celebration is known today as Cheyenne Frontier Days, and has continued year after year without interruption since that date.  This lovely impressionism is completed in muted earthtones.  The artist's use of light and his muted palette gives this painting an antique appearance and reinforces masterfully that it is morning and the sun is just rising.  He subtly highlights the rider in sunlight as he is hanging on for his life to the bucking bronco.  Onlookers are hooting and hollering in the foreground as another cowboy prepares his ride in the background.  We will include the story line about this painting with the sale.  This would make a lovely addition to any western or cowboy art collection.

Shannon Stirnweis is an accomplished and listed fine artist and illustrator of western life subjects.  He began his career as an illustrator in the US Army and pursued that career commercially illustrating for books, posters, ads and magazines such as Boy's Life, Field & Stream, and Sportsman Magazine.

He is a member of Western Artist's of America and is shown in galleries throughout the US.  He is represented in the permanent collections of the US Dept of the Interior, US Air Force, US Army Historical Museum, US Coast Guard, Leaning Tree, Marriot, Grumbacher, Rumley, CBS, Burt Reynolds, California Federal Savings, University of Texas, University of Wyoming and the Pippin Museum.  He has participated in shows at the Hunterton Art Center, New York Historical Society, and the Smithsonian.

The painting and frame are in excellent condition.  It is housed in beautiful 3 1/2" wide western style wood frame with antiqued gold fillet which is new to the piece.  Along with the painting we are including an antique art lamp which will enhance the artist's use of light.  Additionally, we include the original Certificate of Authenticity.  The artist has signed the painting bottom left.
